'Unmissable, mesmerising, totally unique …' 3:AM Magazine
The Freud Museum London is delighted to announce the screening of Leather-bound Stories, followed by Susana Medina and Derek Ogbourne in conversation with Richard Marshall from 3:AM Magazine.
A film sequence and a collection of shoes conspire to reveal a family secret leading to a mesmerizing meditation on the social, psychological, spiritual and sentimental life of things. A prism of a film in which fiction and poetic essay interlock, Leather-bound Stories is a profound and witty tale about being immersed in a world of things and fetishes where objects have become an inextricable part of our landscape.
Based on Medina’s novel Philosophical Toys and narrated by Melancholy Maaret, this short piece features a fascinating mix of professional and first-time actors: Rhonda Austin, Paul Prescott, Sophie Woolley, Jasmina Erdevicki, Olly Beck, Emilio Villodres, Ilze Black & Tony Ryder
Award-winning Susana Medina is the author of Red Tales (forthcoming in 2011); the acclaimed poetry and aphorisms collection Souvenirs from the Accident and Philosophical Toys, her first novel in English - an offspring from which is the highly praised short film Buñuel’s Philosophical Toys (24 mins), shown across the UK.
Derek Ogbourne is best known for video works such as ‘Gravity and Others’, ‘Struggle’ and ‘Magic Mountain’, as well as the cinematic piece 'Death and the Monument'. His latest installation, The Last Image, Museum of Optography is currently touring in various museums across Europe.
This is part of a wide range of exciting events we have planned at the museum to coincide with the Objects in Mind exhibition which runs until 27 February 2011.
